Iran Closes Strait of Hormuz After US Strikes on IRGC Attack

On Sunday, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy targeted an 'unauthorised' ship that had disabled its systems and was navigating off an approved path. The IRGC cautioned that any retaliation would provoke a 'severe response' and indicated that new enemy installations in the area would be targeted. In reaction, the US military initiated a fresh series of strikes against Iran, following the IRGC's assault on a Cyprus-flagged container vessel passing through the strait. According to US Central Command, a civilian crew member is missing, and the ship is incapacitated due to a fire and major damage in the engine room. The IRGC noted that multiple vessels ignored warnings while attempting to navigate the waterway, resulting in its closure 'until further notice' and 'until the end of US interference in this region.'
