Investigation Reveals 942 Israeli Checkpoints Fragmenting the Occupied West Bank
An investigation conducted collaboratively by WIRED, Lighthouse Reports, ARIJ, and the Palestine Reporting Lab assessed how Israeli checkpoints affect Palestinian daily life in the West Bank. Over a period of 18 months, the researchers examined Telegram communications, surveyed locals, confirmed more than 800 barriers, and tracked 2.6 billion GPS signals. As of December 2025, the number of checkpoints has risen to at least 942 from 925. Commuters experience a weekly loss of approximately 90 minutes, amounting to 77 hours each year. Since October 2023, delays have surged by over 50%, with some routes taking 100 minutes instead of the usual 48. The Palestine Red Crescent Society reported 237 instances of access denial and 240 delays in missions from October 2023 to August 2026, linking 25 fatalities to medical access issues.
