Instagram Debuts Edits Assistant AI to Analyze Reels and Suggest Content Ideas

ai-technology · 2026-10-01

Instagram introduced an AI video assistant called Edits Assistant on Wednesday, integrated into its Edits app, which is Meta's video-editing tool similar to CapCut. The assistant analyzes creators' Reels performance, audience metrics, and Instagram trends to offer tailored insights and content ideas. Brett Westervelt, who leads the Edits app, stated that the tool combines account metrics like follows, views, video retention, likes, and shares with comments, trending topics, and audience interests to spot patterns and provide actionable insights. Creators can access it by opening the Edits app, tapping the chat icon, and asking questions such as "What's working on my account right now?" It can explain why one Reel succeeded while another failed, identify profile improvement areas, and generate video concepts, hooks, captions, scripts, and audio suggestions. Developed in close collaboration with a group of creators, the tool is free with a daily prompt limit, and additional access is available via a Meta One subscription. Earlier this month, Meta launched Meta One subscriptions combining paid features across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp with expanded AI tool access, priced from $2.99 per month for individual apps to $499 per month for the highest business tier. The Edits Assistant aims to handle analysis while leaving creative decisions to creators, as Westervelt noted that creators want a tool that does the digging, not the creative work.
