India's Richest Family Reinvents the Museum in Mumbai

Established in 2023 by Nita Ambani, the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai merges art, commerce, craft, and theatre. In 2024, the Ambani family captured worldwide attention due to the extravagant wedding of their son, Anant Ambani, which was said to cost nearly $1 billion. The NMACC includes an Art House, a Convention Centre housing three theatres, private event spaces, restaurants, cafes, and an Infinity Room created by Yayoi Kusama. It actively collaborates with global artists while promoting Indian talent. A significant partnership with India's Ministry of Culture for the Indian Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale in 2024 highlighted five artists. Mumbai's vibrant art scene has been bolstered by events such as the Mumbai Gallery Weekend and Art Mumbai fair, both launched in 2023.
