Imran Qureshi Creates Permanent Wall Mural for Pergamonmuseum's 2027 Reopening

Pakistani artist Imran Qureshi has completed a large-scale wall painting at Berlin's Pergamonmuseum, which will be permanently displayed when the museum reopens in 2027. The abstract garden composition, measuring approximately eight by eight meters, was created over two weeks in November 2025 in the stairwell adjacent to the museum's reconstructed Alhambra dome room. Qureshi's work blends Islamic miniature traditions with contemporary visual language, using symbolic colors like blue for peace and red for historical blood. The mural is part of a series where twelve artists from the Islamic world respond to the museum's historical artifacts, aiming to connect artistic traditions across time periods. Qureshi, trained at Lahore's National College of Arts and named Deutsche Bank's Artist of the Year in 2013, has created public works internationally including at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.
