Ildiko Kovacs Exhibition 'Tectonics' Opens at Macquarie University Art Gallery in 2026

Macquarie University Art Gallery in Sydney will present 'Tectonics,' an exhibition of work by Sydney-based artist Ildiko Kovacs from February 26 to April 17, 2026. Kovacs creates abstract paintings characterized by energetic spirals, vibrant lines, and tactile textures that explore physical and metaphysical tensions. Her 2020 piece 'All That Jazz,' an oil on plywood work measuring 180 × 122 cm, was donated through the Australian Government's Cultural Gifts Program by the artist in 2023. Photographer Effy Alexakis documented the work. Kovacs's art examines human fragility within a dynamic universe, addressing themes of uncertainty and forces beyond control. The exhibition showcases her layered compositions that balance competing colors and fluid movements.
