Ignacio Docavo Ferrán on Poetry, Editing, and His Debut 'Ejemplares'

Ignacio Docavo Ferrán, a retired psychologist and biology graduate turned poet and editor, discusses his debut book 'Ejemplares' (Ediciones Contrabando), a collection of aphoristic phrases written since 2005. He describes writing poetry as a trance-like state where internal censorship fades. His early influences include Antonio Machado and Gabriel Ferrater, and he discovered contemporary poetry in a workshop at the Universitat Politècnica de València with engineers and architects. Docavo Ferrán also runs the small press La Coz, which has published five Argentine poets: Gabriela Saccone, Laura Wittner, Claudia Prado, Daniel Durand, and Leónidas Escudero. He criticizes poetry for becoming too hermetic and aims to publish accessible work.
