IED Students Present 'The Searchlights' Photography Exhibition at Gallerie d'Italia Torino

Gallerie d'Italia – Torino hosts 'The Searchlights,' a public portfolio review showcasing works by 18 photography students from IED – Istituto Europeo di Design campuses in Turin, Milan, and Rome. The exhibition opens Friday, April 10, from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM, as part of EXPOSED Torino Photo Festival. This event represents the second installment of the three-year collaborative project 'Ti vorrei dire' between IED and Gallerie d'Italia – Torino, following the earlier exhibition 'The Dreamers.' Student projects address urgent contemporary themes through a generational lens, including ecological crises like bee extinction and Arctic loss, humanity's relationship with nature, power dynamics in representation, and existential conditions such as loneliness, mental health, and housing insecurity. The exhibition's title metaphorically positions photography as a searchlight illuminating marginalized issues, framing it as a political act. Works are presented in boxes designed by IED Florence Visual Communication Design students, displayed on tables that facilitate direct dialogue between creators, visitors, and invited photography professionals during the review. This format emphasizes active exchange over passive viewing.
