IED Students Present Modular Emergency Housing Installation at University of Milan

An exhibition titled 'Vivo' featuring a modular housing system for post-disaster situations is currently displayed at the Cortile d'Onore of the University of Milan. The project was developed by students Andrea Lombardi, Sofia Lipoli, Tommaso Cavalli, and Chiara Gorni Silvestrini from the IED European Institute of Design. Curated by Davide Angeli with guidance from Maria Luna Ruggeri, the installation presents a flexible, reconfigurable structure designed to provide temporary shelter in emergency scenarios such as earthquakes. Constructed from scaffolding pipes for ease of assembly, the two-level framework includes private living areas on the ground floor and a communal space above, intended to foster social interaction and community rebuilding. The display incorporates both informational elements documenting the project's development and a full-scale physical model. This initiative aims to reframe emergency response as an opportunity for renewal rather than a period of suspension, emphasizing resilience and adaptability through reusable materials and transformable furnishings.
