Ibeyi Release Vulnerable New Album Offering as Independent Artists

French-Cuban twin duo Ibeyi (Naomi and Lisa-Kaindé Diaz) released their third album Offering on October 11, 2024, marking their first fully independent release after leaving XL Recordings. The album explores themes of surrender and vulnerability, contrasting with their previous album Spell31 which focused on manifestation. Recorded over three years with seven different producers, Offering features the most sonically adventurous work of their career, blending Yoruba spirituality, Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, soul, and electronic influences. The album is accompanied by a series of films co-directed by Corry Van Rhijn and Roman Pichon Herrera, shot in Cuba to showcase the island's authentic spirit beyond colonial architecture. The Diaz sisters, daughters of late Cuban percussionist Angá Diaz, have previously collaborated with Beyoncé (who cast them in Lemonade), J Balvin, and Kamasi Washington. In interviews, they discuss their creative shift from seeking external validation to focusing on the act of offering itself, inspired by a dream involving the Yoruba goddess Yemọja.
