I AM Exhibition Explores Aboriginal Identity Through Western Australia's State Art Collection

'I AM,' an exhibition focusing on identity through Aboriginal art from the State Art Collection, is being showcased at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, with Carly Lane as the curator. The display includes more than sixty pieces by artists from Western Australia and eighteen from areas such as Mornington Island, Tiwi Islands, and Arnhemland. Featured artists comprise Sally Gabori, Danie Mellor, Gordon Bennett, Lin Onus, Fiona Foley, and Emily Kame Kngwarreye. Creation narratives are depicted in bark paintings by Wandjuk Marika and others, while historical artifacts include Tiwi Pukumani poles. This exhibition is part of AGWA's $1.5 million COVID-19 Stimulus Package and will be open from 28 February 2026 until 2027, with updates in August 2026 and early 2027.
