Hyperallergic Editors Pick 15 Art Books for Fall Reading

Hyperallergic's editors, led by associate editor Lakshmi Rivera Amin, have curated a list of 15 forthcoming art books for the fall season. The selection spans novels, catalogs, essay collections, and photography books, featuring works by and about artists such as Christine Sun Kim, whose archive explores deafness in pop culture; Guadalupe Rosales, with an East Los Angeles memoir; and Kent Monkman, who responds to a Vermeer painting. The list also includes essays by Elizabeth Alexander and an artist's take on Moby-Dick, chosen by associate editor Lisa Yin Zhang. The announcement was made in the September 4, 2026 issue of Hyperallergic, which also includes other content such as a review of the Lucas Museum in Los Angeles by Matt Stromberg, a profile of artist Rujuta Rao's portable studio, and a member comment about the exhibition "Graphic Resistance: Seven Decades of California Posters for Peace & Justice" at the Santa Monica Airport Arts Studios, closing September 7. Additionally, the issue features links to Anne Carson's musings on a Rosalía concert, Barbara Kingsolver's reflection on poet Wendell Berry, and an archive piece on Wakaji Matsumoto's photographs of pre-atomic bomb Hiroshima.
