Huawei Unveils UnifiedBus Interconnect for Million-Processor Computing Architecture
On Thursday, Huawei Technologies unveiled its Peerium Computing Architecture, which it asserts can manage up to 1 million processors functioning as a single entity. This architecture utilizes nested parallelism, unified memory addressing, and peer-to-peer interconnectivity, with UnifiedBus technology serving as the high-speed network that connects processors, memory, storage, and networking devices. Referred to as Lingqu in Chinese, UnifiedBus is central to Huawei's strategy to enhance system-level computing power, especially as US restrictions hinder its access to advanced semiconductor manufacturing. The company announced the deployment of an Atlas 950 SuperCluster featuring 256,000 computing cards, while a next-generation Atlas 960 system utilizing near-packaged optics is currently undergoing testing. This approach aims to innovate large data center construction and mitigate chip supply limitations by integrating numerous processors into a single computing unit.
