Houston Arts Alliance Announces 2026 Grant Opportunities for Local Artists

The Houston Arts Alliance has issued an open call for two municipal grant programs: Let Creativity Happen and City's Initiative grants. Both funding opportunities will feature three application cycles throughout 2026. The initial deadline for submissions is April 21 at 11:59 PM Central Daylight Time. Eligibility is restricted to artists residing within Houston's municipal boundaries. Subsequent rounds will accept applications from May 25 through June 23, and from August 28 through September 26. City's Initiative grants provide $5,000 to $10,000 for public programming that emphasizes Houston's cultural diversity and international character, with both organizations and individual creators eligible to apply. Recent recipients include the Houston Latino Film Festival, Hispanic Alliance for Performing and Audiovisual Arts, SoulSista Art Foundation, Houston Center for Photography, and Xochipilli Collective. Let Creativity Happen grants offer up to $2,500 to support experimental public programming that challenges artistic conventions and creates distinctive art experiences. These funds are available to practitioners across multiple disciplines including visual arts, social practice, music, performing arts, literary arts, dance, film, theater, and multidisciplinary work. Previous funded projects encompass theatrical productions, musical recordings, artist presentations, museum shows, essay collections, and mural festivals. The alliance will conduct three complimentary informational sessions: a Zoom workshop with grants staff on April 7 from noon to 1 p.m., an Instagram Live event on April 15 at 4 p.m., and a virtual grants lab Q&A session on April 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Application materials and detailed guidelines can be accessed through the Houston Arts Alliance website.
