Hong Kong Hospital Deploys Privacy-First AI for Patient Communication on AWS
A hospital's Radiology Department in Hong Kong has adopted an AI solution hosted on AWS to manage patient inquiries via WhatsApp, offering referral letter processing and quotations in both Chinese and English around the clock. Developed by Vascue, this system operates solely within the AWS Hong Kong region (ap-east-1), ensuring that patient data remains within local servers. De-identification is performed at the boundary prior to any data being sent to AI models, which are customized for the department's unique clinical standards. The AI has assisted over 6,500 patients, handled more than 110,000 messages, and facilitated over 3,300 bookings. Responses to text inquiries are generated in 20-30 seconds, while image referrals take approximately 60 seconds. Staff have rated 99.2% of AI responses as accurate. The department manager compared the AI's efficiency to having two additional staff members available 24/7. The deployment design, which features network isolation, access controls, and GPU-accelerated computing, was a collaborative effort with AWS Hong Kong Solution Architects. Vascue holds ISO 27001 certification, while AWS infrastructure boasts multiple certifications, including ISO 27001, SOC 2, and CSA STAR.
