Hockney's Dog Painting 17 of Dachshund Stanley Heads to Christie's Auction for First Time
Christie's in London will auction Dog Painting 17, a 1994 artwork depicting David Hockney's dachshund, Stanley, with an estimated value of £1.5 million to £2.5 million. This marks the painting's first time on the market. Created between 1994 and 1995, it showcases Hockney's dachshunds, Stanley and Boodgie. Hockney, who welcomed Stanley into his life in 1987, experienced significant personal losses during this time. Christie's identifies this piece as one of six from the series still held in private collections. The painting will be on view at Christie's starting 8 October, with the auction taking place on 14 October as part of Frieze Week.
