Historic Nice Apartment Once Henri Matisse's Studio Sells for Nearly $4 Million

A 1,720 square-foot apartment in Nice's Palais Caïs de Pierlas, which served as Henri Matisse's studio from 1921 to 1938, was recently acquired for just under $4 million. The current owner, who first admired the property over 50 years ago, purchased it at auction against nearly 40 other bidders. The space, originally where Matisse created many of his Niçoise works, has undergone a significant renovation by Studio Cameleon Design, transforming it from the artist's theatrical interiors to a modern residence with white walls and updated amenities. The renovation included expanding into the attic to create guest rooms. The apartment offers views of the Mediterranean Sea and Nice's Old Town.
