Hirshhorn Museum to loan over 200 works to all 50 states and Puerto Rico

In collaboration with the Art Bridges Foundation, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden has unveiled the '50 for 50' initiative, which will provide over 200 artworks from its collection to institutions across all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Each loan, lasting between three to five years, will be chosen by partner institutions to enhance their collections. The first pieces are anticipated to be on display by the end of 2026, with no cost for the participating museums. Institutions involved include the Oakland Museum of California, the Queens Museum in New York, and the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art in Kentucky. Approximately 20% of these museums are linked to higher education, such as the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas. Notable works available include pieces by artists like Willem de Kooning and Georgia O'Keeffe. Details on specific allocations will be disclosed later this year.
