Hirshhorn Museum Names 51 US Institutions for National Loans Program

The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC has selected 51 institutions across the United States to receive artworks on long-term loan as part of its celebration of the nation's semiquincentennial in 2026. The program, dubbed 'Hirshhorn America 250,' aims to share the museum's collection of modern and contemporary art with diverse audiences nationwide. Participating venues include museums, universities, and cultural centers in 30 states, from Alaska to Florida. Loans will span works by artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Mark Rothko, and Nam June Paik, among others. The initiative is supported by a $1 million grant from the Terra Foundation for American Art. Each loan is set for a minimum of five years, with some extending up to a decade. The Hirshhorn's director, Melissa Chiu, emphasized the program's role in fostering national dialogue around art and history during the 250th anniversary of American independence.
