Hirshhorn Museum acquires KAWS's 14-foot bronze sculpture 'SHELTER'

The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., has acquired "SHELTER" (2026), a 14-foot-tall bronze sculpture by American artist KAWS. The work will debut when the revitalized Sculpture Garden reopens in late October. Director Melissa Chiu highlighted KAWS's ability to bridge disciplines and art worlds, connecting to Pop art figures like Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, and Roy Lichtenstein, as well as contemporaries such as Katherine Bernhardt, Jeff Koons, and Avery Singer. The acquisition underscores the museum's commitment to collecting contemporary global art since its founding in 1974.
