Herzog & de Meuron's MTM furniture collection for UniFor debuts at Milan Design Week 2026
Swiss architecture studio Herzog & de Meuron has designed 'MTM – Made to Measure,' a new furniture collection for Italian office interior specialist UniFor, to be unveiled at Milan Design Week 2026. The modular system originated from a 2022 standing table prototype for the architects' Basel studio and evolved through material research, later inspiring benches for the Memphis Art Museum project in late 2024. Featuring a structural matrix of solid angled frames with wood elements joined via a castle joint technique, the collection achieves lightweight proportions while allowing customization in scale and length. Upholstered elements utilize cork leather, a renewable material the architects discovered while developing furniture for Miami's Pérez Art Museum in 2013, now also used in the upcoming Memphis Art Museum. Collection materials include solid wood, travertine, colored glass, and polished steel. Senior partner Ascan Mergenthaler emphasizes the series' versatility, designed to bring people together through various configurations—from work tables to sofas and even a table tennis table. This launch marks one of two collaborations between Herzog & de Meuron and UniFor presented at Milan Design Week, alongside the 'Giuditta' furniture family for indoor and outdoor use. The architects previously designed UniFor's Milan showroom within the Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli building.
