Helga de Alvear Museum Hosts Second 'Pensar el archipiélago' Conference Series in Cáceres

The Helga de Alvear Museum in Cáceres, Spain, will hold the second edition of 'Pensar el archipiélago' on April 16 and 17. This conference series critically examines the museum's role in the 21st century through a plural lens. It brings together cultural and artistic figures with migrant community groups, blending critical thought and biographical experiences. The program includes a guided tour titled 'Un archipiélago vivo,' led by migrants who narrate personal stories while exploring the Helga de Alvear Collection. Another activity is a screening of Gerardo Olivares's 2007 film '14 km,' which follows three young Africans crossing the Sahara toward Europe. The series is part of the 'Un Museo Abierto al Mundo' project, inspired by philosopher Édouard Glissant's ideas of museums as spaces for cultural and territorial dialogue. Notable participants include Tania Pardo, director of the Museo Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo in Madrid, and Amanda de la Garza, artistic deputy director of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid. Both will contribute perspectives from curatorial practice and museum management. Admission is free with prior reservation, and registrations are available on the museum's website.
