Helen Flood's Psychological Thriller 'La Thérapeute' Debuts in French Translation

publication · 2026-09-24

Norwegian author Helene Flood's debut novel has been published in France under the title "La Thérapeute," translated from Norwegian by Hélène Hervieu for éditions XO. The psychological suspense novel has been translated into 30 languages and became a success in numerous countries. Flood, who works as a psychologist and completed a doctoral thesis on violence and post-traumatic guilt, lives in Oslo with her husband and their two children. The narrative follows Sara, a 30-year-old therapist who counsels adolescents dealing with family problems. Sara and her husband Sigurd recently moved into a house overlooking Oslo, where she has set up her practice. When Sigurd leaves for a weekend in the mountains with two friends, his last message confirms his arrival, but that same evening the two friends call Sara because he has not appeared. The story examines lying within social, family, and marital relationships, with Sara increasingly fearing that the key to Sigurd's disappearance lies in her own memories. Flood, who speaks French, discussed the book in an interview with RFI's Café Polar podcast.
