Heeyoung Noh's Glasgow Exhibition Explores Inherited Trauma Through Dreamlike Paintings

At the David Dale Gallery in Glasgow, Heeyoung Noh showcases a deeply personal collection that delves into the themes of inherited trauma and emotional legacies among women. Born in South Korea in 1995, Noh's paintings intertwine elements of violence and sensuality, utilizing depictions of silk sheets and home environments to express the sentiment that "being a woman feels like a curse." She earned her degree from Sungshin Women's University in 2019 and is set to finish her MFA at Glasgow School of Art in 2024. Noh was nominated for the John Moores Painting Prize in 2025. Her recent exhibitions include RUB RUB RUB (2023) and New Gen: The Emerging Voices (2025). Cora Weiss, also an MFA graduate from Glasgow School of Art, authored the exhibition text. Noh's art investigates the transmission of trauma across generations.
