Hans Memling's Crucifixion Painting Featured in Milan Exhibition with Contemporary Responses

The Museo Diocesano di Milano is presenting an exhibition in spring 2026 centered on Hans Memling's painting 'Crucifixion with the Virgin Mary, Saints John the Evangelist, John the Baptist, Mary Magdalene, Saint Bernard and the Donor Jan Crabbe.' The work, originally part of a Flemish triptych, is on loan from Palazzo Chiericati in Vicenza. The exhibition marks the third consecutive year the museum's Easter program includes contemporary artist responses. Four artists—Stefano Arienti, Matteo Fato, Julia Krahn, and Danilo Sciorilli—have created new works engaging with Memling's masterpiece. The show is curated by Giuseppe Frangi, Valeria Cafà, and Nadia Righi, with support from PwC. Memling, a key figure in the Northern Renaissance known for meticulous detail, lived from approximately 1430 to 1494.
