Hamburger Kunsthalle Acquires Major A.R. Penck Installation Through Liebelt Foundation Support
The Hamburger Kunsthalle has expanded its contemporary art collection with a significant 1979 installation by German artist A.R. Penck (1939-2017), titled '35 Skulpturen, "Mit roter Axt gegen Holz! Modell für Strategie!!"'. This acquisition was made possible through generous funding from Michael and Susanne Liebelt's foundation. The installation consists of 35 wooden sculptures, representing a unique sculptural dimension in Penck's body of work, which complements the museum's existing holdings of his paintings and prints. The Liebelt Foundation has been supporting the Hamburger Kunsthalle since 2024, with this donation announced on October 7, 2025.
