Gwangju Biennale Opens 2026 Curator Course Applications

The Gwangju Biennale Foundation is accepting applications for its 2026 International Curator Course, a two-week intensive programme for emerging curators and cultural practitioners aged 35 or under. Running from 29 August to 10 September 2026 in Gwangju and Seoul, South Korea, the course coincides with the 16th Gwangju Biennale, titled You Must Change Your Life. Led by independent curator Mijoo Park, the programme theme is You Must Change Your Default, prompting critical examination of institutional, social, and personal conditions shaping curatorial practice. The course includes seminars, site visits, and direct engagement with the Biennale's artistic director, curatorial team, and participating artists. Conducted entirely in English, it offers full tuition, accommodation, partial airfare support, and a certificate. The deadline is 5 July 2026. Founded in 1995, the Gwangju Biennale is Asia's oldest contemporary art biennial. The curator course originated from Okwui Enwezor's Global Institute at the 2008 Biennale and has hosted over 200 participants, featuring figures like Maria Lind and Ute Meta Bauer.
