Gustavo Dudamel and Simón Bolívar Orchestra Release Falla Album 'Alma y Fuego'

Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela have released a new album titled 'Alma y Fuego' featuring three major works by Manuel de Falla: 'El amor brujo', 'Noches en los jardines de España', and 'El sombrero de tres picos'. The recording, made in 2025 for the 50th anniversary of El Sistema, includes vocalist Pasión Vega and pianist Javier Perianes. The album presents three distinct visions of Andalusia, exploring Falla's engagement with Spanish musical identity. 'El amor brujo' follows the 1925 ballet-pantomime version premiered in Paris, inspired by dancer Pastora Imperio. 'Noches en los jardines de España' is performed as a series of impressionistic nocturnes. 'El sombrero de tres picos' is presented as Suite No. 2, incorporating folk elements like fandango and jota. The release coincides with the 150th anniversary of Falla's birth in 2026 and the 80th anniversary of his death. The Spanish government has declared the commemorations an event of exceptional public interest. Falla spent his final years in exile in Argentina (1939–1946) as an opponent of Franco. The album builds on Dudamel's previous collaborations with Platoon, which earned a GRAMMY nomination in 2026 for 'Boléro'. The album is set for release on June 12, 2026.
