GrayDUCK Gallery in Austin to Close September 2026 After 16 Years

GrayDUCK Gallery in Austin will close in September 2026 following owner Jill Schroeder's retirement. The final exhibition is Yuliya Lanina's 'Dress Rehearsal' (August 29–September 26), with a 'gallery wake' on September 26 from 5–8 p.m. Currently, Yoonmi Nam's solo show 'Remains to be Seen' runs through June 28. Schroeder opened the gallery in 2010 with spouse Mark Lynch after moving from Minneapolis. Over 16 years, the gallery hosted 120 exhibitions featuring Texas artists including Cande Aguilar, Rachel Comminos, Margaret Craig, Sarah Fox, Michael Anthony Garcia, Raul Rene Gonzalez, Jules Buck Jones, Yuliya Lanina, Leigh Anne Lester, Terry Maker, Rebecca Marino, Tammie Rubin, Rachel Wolfson Smith, Hiromi Stringer, and Sarah Sudhoff. Schroeder initially planned a two-year run but continued due to success. She described the gallery as 'the best thing I ever did.' The couple bought and renovated an east-side home with a spacious expansion. Schroeder emphasized empowering artists, giving them freedom regardless of sales. She has joined the board of Austin nonprofit Women & Their Work. Artist Sarah Fox expressed sadness, noting the gallery raised her standards. Cande Aguilar called grayDUCK 'one of the best galleries in Texas.' Schroeder praised Austin's collaborative art community, contrasting it with Minneapolis.
