Graciela Iturbide's 1986 East Los Angeles Photographs on View at ROSEGALLERY

ROSEGALLERY is currently featuring 'White Fence, Los Cholos', a series of photographs by Graciela Iturbide taken in East Los Angeles back in 1986. These shots were part of a documentary called 'A Day in the Life of America', which brought Iturbide to an apartment in Boyle Heights on May 2, 1986. She documented the lives of young individuals associated with the famous White Fence gang, named after the white picket fence surrounding La Purísima Catholic Church, where a youth group and sports team formed after WWII. This gang became one of the most recognizable in the 20th century. The exhibition highlights Iturbide's intimate portrayal of this underserved community, shedding light on Chicano culture and gang dynamics in Los Angeles.
