Grace Prince Explores Fragility in New Lighting Collection at Jacqueline Sullivan Gallery

Grace Prince's solo exhibition 'Collected Unravellings' at Jacqueline Sullivan Gallery in New York (May 1 – June 20, 2026) presents a new lighting collection that explores fragility, transparency, and material honesty. The collection includes pendant lights, wall lamps, and table lamps made from hand-blown glass, steel, paper, rattan, and cast white bronze. Prince, a Zurich-Milan-London-based British designer, emphasizes visible craftsmanship—exposed welding, unfinished edges, and tangled cords—as intentional traces of making. She collaborated with Berlin Glassworks to develop a technique of trailing glass on the interior of blown glass forms. The works balance transparency and translucency through sandblasting, allowing light to modulate softly. Prince's practice, rooted in material research (she was a material researcher at ETH Zurich), avoids plastics and resins in favor of 'material honesty.' The exhibition follows her previous showcases: 'Held Absence' at Béton Brut in London and 'The Sequence Collection' with Paloma Wool. In an interview with STIR's Pranjal Maheshwari, Prince discusses her interest in 'passages of time as design intentions' and the poetics of delicate states.
