Gorillaz's 29th anniversary stadium show: 70,000 fans, 30+ musicians, and a multimedia spectacle

Gorillaz played a career-spanning two-and-a-half-hour set at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Friday night, marking their 29th anniversary with their first ever stadium show. The event featured over 30 musicians from 15 countries, including Moonchild Sanelly, Kara Jackson, Fatoumata Diawara, Johnny Marr, Sparks, Shaun Ryder, Anoushka Shankar, Posdnuos from De La Soul, Bashy, Little Simz, and Zanai Bhosle. Co-creators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett oversaw the production, which blended live performances with animated backdrops and a documentary crew. The show included a tribute to Asha Bhosle, who appears on video screens singing 'The Shadowy Light', her last recording before her death in April 2026; her granddaughter Zanai sang backing vocals. The setlist spanned the band's discography, including 'Dirty Harry', 'Feel Good Inc', 'Clint Eastwood', and 'Rhinestone Eyes'. Albarn described the project's message of cross-cultural understanding as 'more urgent than ever', while Hewlett expressed surprise at resurgent prejudice. The concert drew 70,000 fans and concluded with all performers on stage for the curtain call.
