Goldsmiths College staff vote for strike action over £22m restructuring plan
Staff members from both academic and professional sectors at Goldsmiths, University of London, have overwhelmingly supported industrial action, with 81% voting in favor following the announcement of a restructuring plan by management. The University and College Union indicated a turnout of 63%, with 92% endorsing Action Short of a Strike, which includes a boycott on marking. On March 26, acting vice-chancellor David Oswell revealed the necessity for £22 million in savings by the conclusion of the 2026-27 academic year. Union representatives condemned the Future Goldsmiths initiative as "academic vandalism," foreseeing job losses this year and further academic cuts in September.
