Giuseppe Uncini's 'Umanesimo e potenza' at Capitolium Art Gallery

Capitolium Art Gallery in Rome presents 'Giuseppe Uncini. Umanesimo e potenza', a solo exhibition curated by Enrico Mascelloni in collaboration with the Archivio Uncini. Running from June 18 to October 16, 2026, the show features eight works spanning from the early 1960s to 2000, tracing the career of the Italian sculptor (1929–2008). Uncini, born in Fabriano, moved away from the Informale movement in the late 1950s, rejecting Pop Art paths taken by peers like Mario Schifano, Franco Angeli, and Tano Festa. Instead, he developed a unique practice using reinforced concrete, iron, and bricks—materials from the construction industry—to create 'objects' or 'architectures' that give physical form to intangible concepts like shadow. Key works include 'Cementarmato' (1961), a rare early piece anticipating Arte Povera and Minimalism; 'Ombra di Piramide T28' (1977) from the 'Strutture Ombra' series, where shadows are solidified; and 'Rilievo n. 99' (2000), a late work in cement and iron. The exhibition is part of a broader survey of post-war Italian sculpture at the gallery, which also featured Leoncillo and Ettore Colla. Housed in Mario Schifano's former studio on Via delle Mantellate, the gallery offers free admission and does not sell the works.
