Gitti Hug: Christopher Wool's 'Bad Dog' launched my collection

Swiss lawyer and collector Gitti Hug, president of the friends of the Kunsthaus Zürich, began collecting art in the mid-1990s with a small Christopher Wool work titled 'Bad Dog' (60x30cm), purchased at auction in 1994 for $4,500. Her most recent acquisition is a drawing by Philip Guston, whose work she fell in love with after seeing an exhibition at the Musée Picasso in Paris. Hug specializes in intellectual property law with a focus on the international art market. She regrets not buying a Mark Rothko at a Christie's auction in Zurich 30 years ago. Her dream artwork is Rothko's 'No. 5 (Reds)' (1961) at Berlin's Neue Nationalgalerie, noting the powerful emotional reactions it provokes. During Art Basel, she frequents Volkshaus Basel and enjoys evening programs at Fondation Beyeler. She advises first-time Basel visitors to see Kunsthalle Basel and dine at Restaurant Kunsthalle for Zürcher Geschnetzeltes.
