Giovanni Bonelli Gallery Opens New Milan Space in Corvetto District with Mattia Moreni Exhibition
The Giovanni Bonelli gallery has relocated within Milan, moving from its historic Isola location to the Corvetto neighborhood at Via Arcivescovo Romilli 20. Gallery owner Giovanni Bonelli explained the move was necessary after learning their previous lease would not be renewed. The new space offers similar square footage with abundant natural light and includes a lower-level area accessible from outside. Bonelli identified Corvetto as an area with significant growth potential, noting its proximity to other cultural institutions like Galleria Milano, Fondazione Prada, and Viafarini's new spaces, with Veda gallery as a direct neighbor. He described the relocation as a strategic investment in what he believes will become an important art district. The inaugural exhibition, titled 'The Future Will Be Weird,' focuses on the late artistic phase of Mattia Moreni (1920–1999), a radical figure in 20th-century European art. Curated by Denis Isaia, the show presents Moreni's work exploring humanoid themes alongside contemporary artists who share connections with him. The exhibition program at the new location will continue the gallery's established approach of juxtaposing historical masters with emerging contemporary voices. This presentation follows several recent exhibitions dedicated to Moreni in Romagna and at MAMbo in Bologna. The gallery collaborated with Associazione Mattia and Archivio Mattia Moreni for this project. Bonelli emphasized that Moreni's legacy remains relevant to contemporary artists and critics, particularly his final creative period.
