Gio Swaby's Rising Profile in Contemporary Art

Bahamian artist Gio Swaby, based in Toronto, has gained significant recognition in the contemporary art world. Her work has been featured in prominent publications including The New York Times and Oprah.com, and five museums have acquired her pieces. Swaby participated in exhibitions such as LACMA's 'Black American Portraits' in Los Angeles and presented her 'New Growth' series at Untitled Miami in December. She also showed work at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London. Swaby creates textile-based portraits using thread and fabric, with series including 'Pretty Pretty' and 'Love Letter' that often depict her sisters. A solo exhibition is scheduled at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg from May to October 2022.
