Gillo Dorfles Publishes 'Paesaggi e personaggi' on Human-Altered Landscapes

Gillo Dorfles, the legendary artist, critic, and founder of the Movimento Arte Concreta, has released a new book titled 'Paesaggi e personaggi' through publisher Giunti. The volume explores how architectural manipulation has transformed natural environments across the globe, examining landscapes from Trieste to Brasilia and from the Urals to Japan. Dorfles, who has actively painted and exhibited as recently as 2017, draws on a century of personal travel and observation to document planetary changes in social, economic, scientific, and urban dimensions. The book will be presented this Friday at Milan's Triennale as part of Milano Arch Week. Spanning disciplines from poetry to psychiatry, Dorfles offers an anthology of memories that begins in his native Trieste and traverses Italy through Milan, Tuscany, and Cilento before crossing the Atlantic to the United States and Brazil. His work questions when human intervention has made landscapes functional versus when they've been left wild, providing a foundation for forming aesthetic opinions about the world's future. The intellectual's lifelong pursuit of elegance remains a guiding principle throughout this personal journey.
