Georgia Ensemble Theatre Shuts Down Quietly After 34 Years

So, the Georgia Ensemble Theatre, which was started back in 1992 by Bob and Anita Farley near Atlanta, has officially shut down. On April 19, the board decided to close the theater because of financial issues, and they didn’t make any public announcement about it. This decision comes after a rough few years since 2017, marked by Anita's cancer battle, Bob's retirement and passing, and the pandemic's effects. The theater had to move locations multiple times and saw its subscriber count plummet from 3,500 to just 500. Anita stepped down in December 2024, and her daughter Laurel briefly took over before resigning on March 29. Their final show was 'Forbidden Broadway: Greatest Hits' from March 13 to March 29. GET is fondly remembered for its unique productions, but now, artists and supporters like Topher Payne and co-founder Tess Malis Kincaid are feeling the loss deeply.
