George Lucas: AI Is Inevitable Progress for Filmmaking

George Lucas, the Star Wars creator, has stated that artificial intelligence is an unstoppable force in cinema, comparing the debate around AI to the historical shift from horse-drawn carriages to cars. In an interview with A Rabbit's Foot, Lucas called AI 'progress' and 'the future,' arguing that AI can solve its own problems, such as detecting fakes. He emphasized human responsibility for illegal actions, stating that AI can track provenance better than humans. Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012 for $4 billion and founded Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) in 1975, initially focusing on practical effects before pioneering CGI. His early career included work as a cameraman on the 1966 film Grand Prix, secured through his student project 1:42.08 to Qualify, a documentary-style piece about racer Peter Brock. Martin Scorsese recently joined AI company Black Forest Labs as an adviser.
