GEOPLAN's Hotič Educational Complex Blends Concrete and Beech in Slovenia

GEOPLAN has completed the Hotič Educational Complex in Zgornji Hotič, Slovenia, uniting a primary school, kindergarten, multipurpose hall, and community facilities into a social center. The design, led by Helena Kovač and Peter Kovač, breaks the building into interconnected volumes that reflect the village's scattered rural layout. Classrooms are adaptable spatial landscapes with modular furniture, direct outdoor access, and varied seating to support contemporary pedagogical approaches. The reinforced concrete structure, necessitated by challenging terrain, is balanced with local beech wood accents and colorful linoleum flooring. The complex includes a village library, sports hall, and spaces for local events, fostering intergenerational interaction. It meets Nearly Zero-Energy standards with natural insulation. The project establishes a new spatial identity for Hotič while remaining rooted in community life.
