Gehry Desk Sells for Record $243,200; Viola to Lead Madre Museum

Frank Gehry's monumental "Icehenge" desk sold for $243,200 at Freeman's, setting a new auction record for a Gehry-designed object. The seven-ton piece, featuring green cubes and mirrored cabinets, was originally created in 2013 as a security station for Chicago's Inland Steel Building. Eugenio Viola has been appointed director of Naples' Madre Museum, returning after serving as curator-at-large from 2009 to 2016; he previously led MAMBO in Bogotá. Humanscale has revived Niels Diffrient's lounge chair design, now in production as the Diffrient Lounge with motorized recline.
