Galeria 18 Presents 'Veredas' Collective Exhibition Honoring João Guimarães Rosa's Literary Classic

Galeria 18 in São Paulo will launch the collective exhibition 'Veredas' on March 25, 2026, curated by Jurandy Valença. The show features approximately 40 works from 21 artists, commemorating the 70th anniversary of João Guimarães Rosa's landmark Brazilian novel 'Grande Sertão: Veredas.' The exhibition explores visual interpretations of the literary work's themes, including the sertão landscape as both geographic and philosophical metaphor, memory, oral tradition, moral conflicts, and identity. Valença's curation continues his research connecting visual arts and literature, following previous exhibitions focused on Hilda Hilst, Virginia Woolf, and Franz Kafka. Participating artists employ diverse media such as drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, jewelry, fashion, painting, and text. The exhibition aims to translate the novel's inventive, non-linear language into a heterogeneous visual experience, inviting viewers to navigate multiple interpretive paths. The vernissage occurs on March 25, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Rua Simpatia 23 in Vila Madalena, São Paulo. The exhibition runs through April 25, 2026, with free admission during gallery hours: Tuesday-Friday 10:00 AM-7:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM-6:00 PM. This presentation coincides with the anticipated release of Guimarães Rosa's biography later in 2026.
