Gabriel Charbit Translates Skylines into Furniture

Gabriel Charbit, a French designer represented by Todd Merrill Studio, has unveiled two furniture collections: 'Skyline' (2018) and 'Metropolis,' both of which draw inspiration from architectural elements. Before venturing into design, Charbit studied engineering with an emphasis on computer science and systems architecture, later honing his skills at École Boulle in Paris in cabinetmaking and design. His creations focus on simplicity, rhythm, and the interplay of materials. 'Skyline' reflects the distant view of New York's skyline, while 'Metropolis' delves into the interplay of material, texture, and light following his relocation to the city. Charbit aspires to craft furniture that encourages personal interpretation and has plans for future public installations.
