Fujifilm Acros II Black and White Film Review: Fine Grain and Long Exposure Champion

Fujifilm Acros II black and white film has been reviewed by Blue Moon Camera, praising its exceptionally fine grain and superior long exposure handling. The original Acros was discontinued in 2018, but after community outcry, Fujifilm announced Acros II, initially released only in Japan before a North American launch in spring 2020. The film boasts an RMS granularity rating of 7, finer than TMax 100's RMS 8, and likely finer than Ilford Delta 100. For long exposures, Fujifilm recommends only a 1/2 stop compensation for exposures between 2 and 16 minutes, making it four times faster than typical films. Compared to its predecessor, Acros II has deeper shadows and slightly more contrast in midtones, enhancing perceived sharpness. The review notes the film's smooth tonality, crisp highlights, and rich shadows. A minor quibble is the lack of a large format option.
