François Morellet's Geometric Abstraction Invades Versailles

In 2026, the centenary of François Morellet's birth, dozens of exhibitions across France honor the geometric abstraction master. The most significant, at Centre Pompidou-Metz, gathers 100 works. Surprisingly, the Château de Versailles hosts six of Morellet's pieces until autumn 2026 in the royal chapel, grand apartment, and park. Initiated by the Centre Pompidou in collaboration with the Estate Morellet, the display proves the artist's adaptability to ornate settings. A text by writer Erik Orsenna accompanies the exhibition in the Carnets de Versailles (May–December 2026). Works include Beaming π, Super Position Nº4, and sculptures in the Bosquet des Bains d'Apollon, designed by Hubert Robert. The exhibition runs from June 30 to November 1, 2026.
