institutional · 2026-10-16

This week, it was announced that Francesco Bonami, an Italian curator who holds US citizenship, will take on the role of artistic director at GES-2 House of Culture in Moscow. Established in 2021 by billionaire Leonid Mikhelson's V-A-C Foundation, GES-2 is located in a repurposed power plant directly across from the Kremlin. This news arrives during a time of strained relations between Russia and Europe following the invasion of Ukraine. Alisa Prudnikova, who has been in charge of programming since 2022, will continue in her role until December. Bonami has an impressive resume, having worked with Flash Art magazine and the Venice Biennale, and has partnered with V-A-C since 2010. GES-2's statement reaffirms its dedication to fostering international dialogue, independent of specific personnel changes.
