France records 1,000 excess deaths during record-breaking heatwave

Scientists have indicated that this is the most severe heatwave recorded in Europe, where climate change is occurring at a faster pace than the global average. While the extreme temperatures have subsided in many regions of France, some northeastern areas remain under a heatwave warning.
