France 24 journalists intimidated after anti-Bolloré question at Cannes

Two France 24 journalists, Nina Masson and Yong Chim, were subjected to intimidation and censorship after asking an actor about the anti-Bolloré platform that stirred the Cannes Film Festival. The incident occurred during a promotional interview for the film "La Bataille de Gaulle" starring Simon Abkarian. When Masson raised the platform—signed by hundreds of professionals warning of billionaire Vincent Bolloré's growing control over French cinema via Canal+ and UGC—the actor deflected. After the interview, the actor's press officer blocked the team in the room, threatened them, and demanded the memory card with the recording. A second press officer joined, and the journalists were forced to sign a written commitment not to broadcast the contentious segment. The France 24 journalists' society (SDJ) called it an "unprecedented gravity" and an attack on press freedom. SDJ president Julie Dungelhoeff compared the methods to those in authoritarian regimes. France 24's management condemned the pressure as archaic and unacceptable. The journalists and management demand an apology from the two press officers. The SDJ expressed full support for Masson and Chim, stating "press freedom is non-negotiable."
