Forough Farrokhzâd's Complete Poetry in French: A Modernist Voice from Iran

The complete poetry of Iranian poet Forough Farrokhzâd has been published in French translation under the title 'J'irai jusqu'au rivage du soleil' in the prestigious Poésie/Gallimard collection in 2026. Translated by Leili Anvar, the volume includes five collections, including the posthumous 'Au seuil d'une saison froide'. Farrokhzâd, born in Tehran in 1934, became a symbol of modernist Persian poetry, breaking with classical forms and introducing everyday language. Her rebellious life—marrying at 16, divorcing at 21, losing custody of her son—fueled her work, which explored female desire and individuality. Her poem 'Le Péché' (The Sin), published when she was 19, scandalized society with its candid confession of pleasure. She later collaborated with filmmaker Ebrahim Golestan, who inspired her collection 'Une autre naissance' (Another Birth). Farrokhzâd died in a car accident in Tehran on February 13, 1967, at age 32. Her legacy endures, with annual commemorations at Tehran's Zahiroddowleh cemetery, and her portrait was raised during recent protests in Iran, symbolizing the struggle for women's rights and modernity.
